We started with a little dog named Kitty and a big dream.
In 2003, our founder Katherine Nowell rescued a sick puppy tied to the shoreline of Carriacou. That moment sparked the realisation that Grenada's sister islands desperately needed veterinary care. What began as outreach clinics organised with the Grenada SPCA grew into Carriacou Animal Hospital — an independent non-profit founded in 2013.
Since then we've been dedicated to accessible veterinary services, animal welfare, and a lasting difference for companion animals and their people on Carriacou and Petite Martinique. CAH is a complete non-profit, entirely run by professionals donating their time and skills to the community.

Katherine Nowell
Founder & Managing Director

Founder and managing director of CAH since 2013, Kathy brings years of experience from the Grenada SPCA. After falling in love with Carriacou in 1995, she made it her home in 2012 and now oversees volunteer coordination, admin, PR, social media — and even lends her carpentry skills to the clinic.
Nadine Cerny
Head Veterinarian — Dr. med. vet., MRCVS

Head Veterinarian since 2016 and board director since 2019, Dr. Nadine graduated from the University of Zurich in 2008 and earned her doctorate in 2011. Alongside medicine and surgery she manages IT, the website and part of the charity's fundraising.
Patty Cady
Head Vet Tech

CAH's Head Vet Tech since 2018 and board member since 2020, Patty brings decades of nursing experience and became a certified vet tech in 2009. She moved to Carriacou permanently in 2018 after years as a supporter.
Deb Augustine
Education Director — BSc, MSc

Deb joined as a volunteer after Hurricane Beryl in 2024 and is now Education Director and board member. A former UK science teacher with an MSc in Educational Leadership, she moved to Carriacou permanently in 2024 with her husband Charles, their cats Layla and Musi, and dog Clover.
Sibylle Erny

A steady volunteer since graduating from the University of Zurich in 2008, Sibylle first came to Carriacou to support a GSPCA outreach clinic. A board member since 2013, she works in small-animal practice in Basel, Switzerland and visits every year.
Emma Faulkner
Supporter & Fundraiser — MRCVS

A CAH volunteer since 2013, Dr. Emma visits once a year while running a busy UK clinic for small animals, livestock and horses. She leads “Friends of Carriacou Animal Hospital,” raising funds and supplies.
Rachael Grundon

A volunteer since 2014, Dr. Rachael is a European Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology with RCVS status. She supports CAH by raising funds, collecting supplies and providing expert ophthalmology advice.

CAH patron and former GSPCA president (2004–2012), Peggy has been dedicated to animal welfare in Grenada since 1995. As advisor, benefactor and mentor she is an invaluable asset to CAH.
