About Us
Island-born, community-run.
It started in 2003 with a sick puppy named Kitty, rescued from the shoreline by our founder Katherine Nowell. That moment revealed how badly Grenada's sister islands needed veterinary care. What began as outreach clinics grew into Carriacou Animal Hospital — an independent non-profit founded in 2013.
Today we're entirely run by qualified professionals donating their time and skills: accessible care, preventative medicine, spay & neuter programmes, and education for the people who love their pets.

Five ways we care for the island.
Accessible care
Affordable, professional veterinary and emergency treatment, plus routine surgeries for dogs, cats and more.
Preventative medicine
Safe, effective protection against ticks, fleas and heartworm — free or low-cost — replacing the unsafe treatments that cause harm.
Population control
Free and low-cost spay & neuter programmes to reduce the number of stray and unwanted animals.
Education & awareness
School programmes, clinic visits and outreach that teach responsible pet ownership and disease prevention.
Community outreach
We travel to remote parts of Carriacou and Petite Martinique so essential care reaches the animals who need it.

Stronger than the storm
Building the future, greener and hurricane-ready.
On 1 July 2024, Hurricane Beryl tore through Carriacou and destroyed our rented clinic. A mobile clinic and a temporary surgery kept us going — but it isn't sustainable. With land granted by the Government of Grenada, we're now building a permanent, storm-resistant home.
